RECOUNT WRITING

Here is my recount writing about Rose my cat.                                              

This is a piece of writing that retells and evaluates (what you think) events or experiences.

Title A brief name for the experience or event.	My Cat
Orientation Tells when and where the event began and who was there.	In the weekend I played with my cat. She was being very playful. My cat’s name is Rose.  She is white on her belly and tortoise shell on her back.  I got her this year and it was unexpected because I thought I was going to get her next year.
Sequence of events Tells the events in the order they happened. You need to have a minimum of 3-4 events. Remember one topic per paragraph.  Your paragraph should have an introductory sentence use a time sequence word/phrase and then detail.	When she was playing with her scratcher, she pulled it onto herself and it was a little bit funny.  Her scratcher is a pole with hard rope around it that is good for her claws to sharpen them. Then I went to give her a cuddle. But then she ran of to have revenge on her scratcher.   Later on, we played outside. She was chasing the stick that I through for her.  Then we went inside and I had to do a job outside.  I threw my socks on the couch while I went to get my shoes and she ran up and started playing with my socks.  It looked very funny.
Personal Comment/Ending Tells how the experience/event ended and some thoughts you may have about it.	I think my cat is a crazy cat!  I love her and I love giving her cuddles because she is really, really fluffy.  I am very glad that I have a cat.

My Taniwha-Writing

For the past few weeks we have been practising using descriptive language in our writing. We have been trying to 'paint pictures with words.' We all got to invent our own taniwha.  We all drew our own taniwha and then we had to write about it and describe what it looks like, what we do with our taniwha and what our taniwha is like. Then we read our work to a buddy and they had a go at drawing our taniwha                                                                                     

Create and Describe Your Own Creature

(Nogard - taniwha)

WALT: be descriptive in our writing.  

Look at the description of a Nogard.  Now Create and describe your own creature that you will then be able to read to a buddy so that they can draw it.  Your description must be as detailed and clear as possible so that when you share it with others they will be able to visualise and draw you creature. Use lots of adjectives (describing words - big, small, round, green).

You must .....

• Have a name for your creature
• Start from the big things and work your way to the smaller things
• Describe the shapes
• Describe its neck, body, tail, wings etc.
• What does its head look like?Think about its eyes, nose, eyebrows, mouth, teeth
• Describe its legs/flippers/fins etc.
• What colours is it?
• Any extra details on the body like scales, spikes etc.
• Keep it simple and clear!
• Use correct punctuation and spelling.
• Check that your sentences make sense.

Remember that a good writer ‘paints’ pictures in their reader’s head with words.   This is what good descriptive writing does.

                                                            Water Beast

Have you ever heard of a Taniwha called Water Beast? Well I have. He is the guardian of the ocean. He looks like a merman and a sea serpent. He has a round head.  He has a long body like a serpent and a long curly tail.He has a pounamu guardian staff. He is huge. His body is kikorangi  like the deep sea, He has red māori tattoos on his face. He also has a long curly tail. He swims like a swimming sea serpent. He can also camouflage in the sea. He has three horns on each side of his head and each side of his tail.  He has no legs and he has two arms. When I ride him he makes a swoosh sound. I ride him to the bottom of the ocean and sometimes we see Tangaroa and he gives us beautiful gifts. He calls them the prizes of the ocean. Me and my taniwha have great fun together.

What I think you could improve on: I think That Lincoln could have described how big his Taniwha was better.

My mihi

How I made my mihi . I took photos of my house and my family and inserted them on a google drawing. 

We are learning to pronounce the Maori words properly. We were learning to introduce ourselves in Te Reo Maori.
