Quick Write Term 4
We have been learning to write ‘Quick Writes.’ This is where you are given something to write about (a writing prompt) and you only have 10minutes to write as much as possible using this writing prompt.
1. FIREWORKS
As I entered the courtyard I saw gleaming colors of karaka/orange, waiporoporo/purple and whero/red it was beautiful. The fireworks colors covered the courtyard. It was dense, heavy, suffocating everyone. It was like I was in a battle field with never ending gun fire.

The Beekeeper
Quick Write Number One - The Beekeeper
For the next two weeks we are going to work on ‘Quick Writes.’ This is where you are given something to write about (a writing prompt) and you only have 10mins to write as much as possible using this writing prompt.
For our writing prompts we will use either images or short videos.
The purpose of this is to practise writing fluently.
When we look at our writing prompt we will have about 10-15 mins to discuss it and brainstorm some ideas and vocabulary.
Our learning goals are to:
-write a description, using powerful words and phrases
-include some Te Reo Māori
-carefully check that our sentences make sense and have correct punctuation and spelling.
When we are writing we need to think about…
- What do I want my reader to see?
2) What do I want my reader to hear?
3) What do I want my reader to smell?
Tips:
-look closely at the picture or video
-think about the three key questions and the learning goals
-give yourself time to plan and write
Do your writing here
I walked up to the beehive as calm as a cat stalking its prey. I lifted up the honey frame and smelt the sweet yummy sugary honey .

maori ledgends
As part of matariki we re-read the legends of Maui. We then retold a legend and created artwork. Below is my work.

One day the sun was moving too fast. The people in the village did not get to do their chores or play because the sun was moving too fast. Maui wanted to slow the sun down. So Maui and his brothers wove magical ropes out of harakeke to slow the sun down. Maui and his brothers then at night went to where the sun rises. Once they got there they built a wall to hide behind and when the sun rose they jumped up and the brothers threw the harakeke ropes at the sun and then Maui jumped up. With the ropes tangled in the sun’s great fiery hair the brothers held the sun down and Maui hit the sun with the magic jawbone of his grandfather. Maui kept hitting the sun until he slowed down. Now the sun has slowed down and now the people can do their chores or play.

Firstly, pets are good to play with.
For example, you can play fetch with dogs also you can get cats to chase things.
|
Secondly, they give you company like cats sit on your lap and dogs are good to pat and it makes you feel good and happy. And if you live by yourself dogs can give you company.
| |
Thirdly, pets also eat your leftovers. Like dogs eat scraps so your bin does not get full. Also you can give leftover chicken or fish to your cats.
| |
Fourthly, dogs can also sniff medical conditions. They can sniff people who are sick or have cancer. Also some dogs can tell if your going to have an epileptic fit and warn you. These are good reasons to have pets.
| |
Concluding statement
Summing it up. A summary of your arguments and your view on the topic.
|
We should have pets because pets are good to play with, they give you company, pets also eat your leftovers and dogs can sniff medical conditions. IT IS GREAT TO HAVE PETS!
